Greenwell Springs Youth Riders Rodeo | Greenwell Springs, LA | 5/3 – 5/4

In the mid 1950’s, a group of Boy Scouts in the Greenwell Springs area had a dream. The boys had horses and enjoyed going on trail rides. Three men and their scout masters also had a vision – form a mounted drill team. Haney Ambrose, George Bailey and Bill Bennett knew it could happen. At that time, the Sheriff’s office had a posse (drill team). With their help, a drill team was born. The drill was refined and still runs the same way today. It was Mrs. Haney Ambrose who named them, “The Greenwell Springs Youth Riders” because that was where most of the members resided. In the late 50’s and early 60’s, girls were allowed to join the “Youth Riders” and it was on its way to becoming a legend. More than 60 years later, it is still going strong. Little brothers and sisters sat post and waited their turn. The Youth Riders have always been a family affair.

This youth group of horse riders are comprised of kids ages 8-18, that like to ride fast! They perform at rodeos, parades and other horse events in Louisiana and surrounding states.
